Kwik Fit in Bath had very kindly agreed to take a look at our
car and give it a 'free pre-MoT'. Clearly we were not going to turn down such
an offer as it would help us to focus our efforts appropriately over the next
few weeks. A day's insurance was sorted, a new battery was bought, an escort
was arranged - just in case - and our Trooper started up and headed off on the
public roads under her own power for the first time in years. As long as the
emission test was looking for maximum we would be ok; smoke poured from the
exhaust for the first 4 miles leaving us in some doubt whether the engine was
as sound as we had thought.... Cecilia in the escort car could not get too
close, but then she did not need to given that there was no doubt about where
our little Trooper was. Clearly however, this was only the coughing and
spluttering of our newly (re)born child as by the time we made it to Bath all
seemed well. Many, many thanks to Warren and the crew at Kwik Fit who not only
gave the car a thorough testing - and she was surprisingly sound - but have
also agreed to do an MoT and help sort one or two things that we need to
address: scored brake discs and a dodgy bush on the steering arm being the main
ones. Shaun and I need to sort out a spot of welding first and find a way of
locking down the bonnet but then it's back to Bath... Thanks again guys.

Hey,
Shaun, Thanks for the call as you belched, smoked and fumed your way to the
MOT....but, did it pass? Hope the engine is actually OK and that you make it
to Timbuktu. |
